Deadly Doses: A Writer's Guide to Poisons is a good resource for those writers who enjoy writing a good murder mystery. And it also keeps you accurate. After all, old George shouldn't swallow his nightly sherry and collapse in one motion if the poison Mary slipped into his drink takes twenty minutes to act.....
Body Trauma: A Writer's Guide to Wounds & Injuries is a major help to me, especially with a character that's so..... destructive. Details everything from coma to the "dirty dozen" serious (but survivable!) chest injuries..... I disgusted my friends reading from this one. You can too! ^_^;;
Armed & Dangerous: A Writer's Guide to Weapons: a wonderful book! Knives to guns, this is your resource.
Cause of Death: A Writer's Guide to Death, Murder & Forensic Medicine -- perhaps a good way to get your story moving. Not quite as stomach churning as "Body Trauma," but a good constitution is recommended.
Malicious Intent: A Writer's Guide to how Criminals Think: finally, a believable villain is in sight! An explanation of motivations is also included (Jer, get this book!).
Modus Operandi: A Writer's Guide to how Criminals Work shows how criminals and villains make do with what they have, and commit crimes and other despicable acts while still leaving clues for your heroes!
Poisoners Handbook is a book I don't have, but I think it's about the same as "Deadly Doses." It is also cheaper.
World Lit Only by Fire: The Medieval Mind & the Renaissance - Portrait of an Age sounds like a good book. I'm becoming more involved with the local SCA Kingdom, and I really should read up on history
Whos Who in the Middle Ages is a book for all of you who enjoy reading. A thick book, not for the squeamish!
Medieval Soldier: I love this book!
Medieval Military Revolution is a book I'll admit I haven't read yet. But its sitting on my shelf, and soon I'll get around to it..... I swear!
Here Be Dragons is a historical novel set in late twelfth and early thirteenth century England and Wales. It tells the story of King John's natural daughter Joanna, married at fourteen to Llewelyn the Great, "a wild Welsh border lord nearly twenty years her senior, to cement relations between her father's kingdomand the rebellious Welsh principalities
Falls the Shadow is set in thirteenth-century England, the fierce, vivid and uncompromising story of two men who would rule a kingdom--two men whose actions would alter forever the destiny of England.
Reckoning is the last book in the above series, I guess..... I'm not positive. Haven't read these books in a while.
Queen's Man: is set in 1193, when Richard the Lionhearted and Eleanor of Aquitane ruled Britain. Coming upon a brutal roadside attack, young Justin de Quincy successfully drives away the assailants but not before one of the victims, a wealthy goldsmith called Gervase Fitz Randolph, dies. Fitz Randolph was on his way to the royal court, carrying a letter with the news that King Richard had been captured. Justin delivers the letter and is stunned when Eleanor begs him to find Fitz Randolph's killer. Isn't it obvious I like Sharon Kay Perman?
Cruel as the Grave is a mystery set in medieval times. Read it.... I'm not going to give away any plot!
Murder in the Holy City is yet another murder mystery, this time set during the Crusades. Knights have been dying, all killed with the same kind of curved knife with a jeweled hilt, and its up to Sir Geoffrey to find out what is going on.
Dragon & the George is just a fun read. You'll enjoy it if you have a sense of humor.
Thank you for taking the time to look at these. Maybe you'd like to go back to my homepage?
